I have been playing music for most of my life, and continue to explore new types of music and instruments. These days I play guitar, 5 string banjo, mandolin, tenor banjo, harmonica, and sing. I play a variety of styles including classical, swing, bluegrass, Celtic, blues, and country.
I often assemble with the Light of the Moon band. In this group I play old-time banjo, harmonica, tenor banjo, and some rhythm guitar. Although the quartet primarily plays old time stringband music we often do gigs as a duo or trio playing swing, old-time, blues, Celtic, and country music.
I have played in a variety of bluegrass bands over the years and continue to partner with Jim Krans, a great singer and guitarist who also can fills in on bass when needed. Jim and I play bluegrass, country, and swing tunes.
In addition to playing with some other very talented musicians, I also continue to enjoy playing solo. I have maintained a classical repertoire and enjoy playing for weddings, private parties, restaurants, and anywhere where someone would like to add a taste of classical music to their event.
One particular joy is playing at hospitals and attempting to bring some fun or at least some distraction to an otherwise stressful situation.
Another great joy is playing for children. I have often played for elementary students in schools and maintain a fair number of historical songs as well as children’s songs.
